A cool, forest-shaded valley built around riverside cafes, a walkable coffee village, and an ancient tree-tunnel forest walk, reachable on a comfortable 1.5-2 hour ride from Chiang Mai. A 125cc handles the route without issue; a 160cc is more comfortable two-up or with extra gear. For riders already tackling the longer Samoeng Loop, Oui Kaew Coffee near Samoeng Tai Market sits close to the route’s midpoint — a natural rest stop before the loop’s more technical Route 1269 return leg. If coffee and a relaxed pace are the point of the ride, Mae Kampong is the better dedicated trip — shorter, easier, and built entirely around the cafe experience.
